Down into the mountain
The Cave
Hoverbergsgrottan was discovered in 1897 by the Swedish-American Jöns Väst, who was lowered into the crevice with a lantern. According to legend the giant Hoverbergsgubben lived here – until people arrived a thousand years ago.
Two long staircases take you twelve metres down. There a vault opens up, 20 to 30 metres high. Daylight filters through an opening in the roof and coloured lights bring the rock walls alive. In summer, local artists exhibit their work inside the cave.

The Campsite
A small, peaceful family campsite between Lake Storsjön and the mountain wall. Powered and unpowered pitches, tent spots and simple cabins. The service house is open 24/7 and the water comes straight from the spring inside Hoverberget.

Since the 1960s
The family behind the mountain
The cave and campsite have been run by the Rödin family since the 1960s. It started with grandmother Kristina Rödin; today it is Jan-Olov who welcomes visitors, sells ice cream in the kiosk and keeps the lanterns lit down in the mountain.

Frequently asked
June through August we are open every day, 10 am to 8 pm. From September onwards we are open 10 to 4, but please call ahead so we know to be there.
Admission is SEK 70. Children under 12 go free. Tickets are bought in the kiosk by the parking area.
Yes, children are very welcome with an adult. The stairs are steep but safe. Bring a warm layer – it is cool inside the mountain even in summer.
About 600 metres of steep uphill from the parking and kiosk to the cave entrance. Sturdy shoes recommended.
We take phone bookings, but just as often it works fine to turn up. If there's room in our hearts, there's room in the field.
In early spring and winter the cave is icy and hard to enter. The ice is usually gone by midsummer. Please call ahead if you're coming outside the summer season.
